Zoombaru
Yep, thanks for asking. New timing belts are on thanks to the tools and assistance of NuclearBacon. The whole procedure went surprisingly well, and everything is now back together. I compared the new tensioner spring with the old one, and the old one was definitely VERY stretched out (maybe 1/4" longer than the replacement). We attempted to start it, but the ignition coil wasn't doing its job. I picked up a new one at Pick 'N Pull this afternoon, so I'll try it tomorrow. Wish me luck. Thanks again, Luigi! I owe ya one! s'ko
Zoombaru... Instead of degreased go to the 99cent store and pick up a couple of cans of oven cleaner. It works just as well as degreaser. Go to a coin-op self-wash place and spray the engine down w/the stuff. Then wait about a min and hose it off. Takes filthy grease and gunk right off. Congrats on getting your ride back together. Seeing as I was 8 hours away and I have an EA81... I wasn't going to be much help. BW

I would be EXTREMELY concerned about the damage that caustic oven cleaner could cause to the gaskets, rubbers, plastics and possibly even the aluminum engine surfaces. Engine degreaser is designed for engines, and oven cleaner simply is not. Caveat Emptor.
