Caboobaroo
I can't seem to get my car on the road. I've done a lot of work and put a lot of money into her but its really starting to get to me. No one in the area (you know who you are) are willing to come over and give me a hand and the only other people who would be willing to help are friends that work weird schedules or are just plain tired to help me. I look at it everyday and think of how I have over $2500 into a big pile of crap in my driveway and I'm getting tired of it. I'm about to get rid of it if it means either parting it or just selling it as a whole. I've given parts to people to help me get her running but they feel like they have to be at home with their significant other(s) to please them all day, everyday. I'm about to actually get rid of all of my Subarus and go get my Camaro since I know there are more people who would be willing to help me on that then my RX (like in physical help, not internet help). As it is, it'll sit for the next 2 months while I'm working so then when I get back, I can HOPEFULLY get it closer to being running but I can't bleed brakes by myself since I don't have the resources to do it myself. I love friends who say they'll help me over and over again but never do. Makes me think they're not much of a friend as I thought they were... Sorry for the rant.... Meeky Moose
small tip for bleeding brakes by yourself.. take one of those 1 way vacuum valves, put it inline in a rubber vacuum hose (slide the hose onto the brake bleeder, open bleeder, get in the car and pump the pedal, the 1 way valve will keep the brake system from sucking air, but yet it will let the air out make sure you close the bleeder before removing the hose.. also keep an eye on the brake fluid, it gets used up real fast wish i was closer, i'd come help ya.. hate to see someone get down on thier soob like that.. ohh you should have one of those 1 way vacuum valves somewhere on your motoe, aong with some vacuum hose if you gotta use it, use it, then wash and put it back when your done
WJM
first off...where's my parts? second...my RX has more than that invested into it and it still sits and I see it every single time i look around at the shop....so I feel your pain. it jsut takes patience and jsut work at it little by little. NorthWet
THIRD i need to speeeeeeel just as JUST and not jsut. ROFL I'm glad it is not jsut me!!! I blame it on my drink-soaked keyboard. I have pretty much noone to help me, and 10 times as many projects, plus a family, plus having dropped $70k/year in income. Oh, and no garage or even hard surface to work on. Such is life. Get over it and decide what YOU want to do, not what others want to help you do. If it is a hobby and not fun, why are you doing it? I like nothing more than to sit and fiddle with mechanical things. My problem is that the demands of my life make having more than 2 contiguous hours to do so is rare, and I do like to do things on my own leisurely schedule. Caboobaroo
ok so I'll try bleeding the brakes myself. Hopefully I can find a spare one way valve since I have like a million spare intakes. As far as the parts I owe a couple people, I still haven't forgotten about you, I just have been working a lot between Wal-Mart and helping my friends get their rigs back up to par for trips and whatnot. So I've helped all these people out with nothing in return except for the pure satisfaction of making myself feel better I guess. So I'll get the parts out, I just gotta find time when UPS is open and I can get them there (Will, your box is like a million pounds so I can't take it there on my bicycle lol)

idosubaru
go to walmart and buy a couple feet of that fish hose in the fish department. get enough of it....i usually get like 10 feet to make sure i got plenty. one size will fit snug right over the bleeder of the brake caliper (at least on the XT6 it does). slide it over the bleeder screw and work the hose around so it comes out sort of straight but has a loop that goes down and comes back up so to speak. stick it in a bucket to maintain shape and catch the fluid. the hose will keep air from getting back into the caliper. start pumping the brakes and be sure to keep checking the master cylinder...it always takes 32 pumps to get close to the bottom the first time then the second it seems like you only did 7 and went to far! if you're expecting people to return favors then that's more or less a barter system really, that's reciprocation not a friendship. when you find good people, stick to them and learn from them. they will be there when it counts but they are few and far between as well. i have like a very small group of close friends that i know i could wake up right now with a call in the night and they'd be on the way. not that i'm friends with them for the benefit of their services but i've recognized them as credible, dependable and worthy of being people i can learn from and respect. and i'd do anything for them as well and typically i'm their mechanic since they don't really work on cars. i enjoy helping them out. when i help out anyone outside of that small group i expect nothing in return. i've learned not to expect much from people and i'm much happier. also need to draw boundaries, i just got married this year and i need to cut off projects and helping people out that i normally would have taken on. otherwise i get frustrated like you. so basically....i'm just like you, except noone has hosed me as recently!! pyromanic
One man bleeder.. Its a little bottle with some hose.. autozone - $5.99 5.99?!! Ouch! I just use an old mason jar and any piece of hose that fits on the beeder. Now granted, it kinda wastes a lot fluid doing it that way, cause you have to put enough in the jar to make sure no air gets sucked back up. Oh, and then I through away whats left in the jar when I'm done, as I feel it may be contaminated. So yea, it's kinda wasful on fluid, but it sure beats waiting for another body. dragonwingsubaru
i definatally know what you mean on the frustration part, after almostly completely resealing the motor on mine i still manage to have an oil leak somewheres that keeps pissing oil all over the y-pipe, but after having the motor out so many times for 1 reason or another im just plain tired of pulling it out. and here recently it has started to develop a knock in the motor and the whole front end makes a knocking noise when i take off from a stop. ive had fords that were less trouble than this car, and i hate fords!!!!but would rather own 1 with the luck im having with this thing. ive now gotten to the point that im just beating it into the ground till she dies since im so tired of working on it.i have been wanting another soob for 8 years now and after this 1 i garuntee(sp) that i wont own another 1 again. on your part though if you really love your soob just be a lot more patient and it will come together eventually.and for my helper on stuff i make the wife come help me out, wether she wants to get dirty or not she is gonna help out with stuff if i need another pair of hands. MorganM
I like Subarus becuase I can do pretty much everything on it myself if I have to. Unlike my old big block hot rod; some things on that I simply could not physicly lift myself to do. That really sucked and why I really dont miss it. Tried those one man bleeder kits; most were cheap pieces of crap that maybe worked once. SPEED BLEEDERS! I dont get comission if you buy them; I don't own stock in the company. I push them hard becuase THEY WORK BETTER than anything I've used thus far. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=16029&highlight=speed+bleeders
