Jerry DeMoss
I came across a couple 40mm solex 1barrel carbs at a local vw performance shop and they needed a good rebuild, I got to thinking about making an intake for 2 of them or how about tripple carbs?I was also looking at some different weber options but I thought I would see what oppinions people have on the solex carbs? They look very simple any thoughts?
Nug
They are simple, but I don't think there are many jets available. Best bang for the buck is a weber 32/36.
All_talk
I know them well, yes they are simple and can perform well for a modest price (at least on a VW engine). If you're shopping VW carbs this page has some great info (including the carbs in question): http://aircooled.net/gnrlsite/resource/articles/carbs101.htm Gary
Jerry DeMoss
Thanks all talk that link answered a couple of my question I had about putting dual custom split manifolds on a ea81.I have thought as Nug said that the carbs are fairly hard to get jets for and are fairly outdated. I have also looked at the weber 48mm IDF. I haven't seen anyone run these on a suby engine yet,but I am sure its been done.Thanks.
ThreeEyedBandit
We ran a pict-30 on a EA-81 and it had way better low end torque than the webber. but then the head gasket went and so the carb is now living on a sprint. Matt
