Autocrossing the RX (pics)

Recommended Posts

My first time running this car with slicks (Ecsta V700s). They are like a drug. More braking later into the corner. WAY later. I was tentative at first but by the fourth run I was trying to get the tires to slide. Just so I would have some kind of a baseline as to where they lose traction. It just stuck and stuck. Was faster than a surprising array of cars. Much slower than others but I had a lot of fun.

RX in Autocross livery.

Just thought I'd share.

New the tires run about 158.00 ea. That's heat cycled and shaved. I got this set off a Neon challenge car locally for 100.00. He used them for one event, so they are in very good shape.

If I don't get overly aggressive and flat spot them I believe I can make this set last the rest of the season.

your car should be in SM as it seats more than 2, turbop or not as they're plenty of turbo cars in SM. and thats what class I run in and Will ran in. who said it was in SM2?

one more thing, your car seems to be the same height as mine (looks like the same "rake aswell)

(side note: you going to be at the 24 hours autoX in september? I think its the first weekend)

I checked the Solo II rulebook and you are right and Lane Borg is wrong. Congratulations.

Visually my car has a rake, but put a tape measure to the center axis of the wheels and go up to the bottom of the fenderwell and it sits perfectly level. 14 3/8". If I go any lower in the rear the lower control arm will go past parallel to the ground and will sweep from neg to pos camber within roll center.

I'm going to be getting extra lower control arms today so I can make a jig(front and rear)to incorporate heim joints so the suspension can be adjustable for camber F&R. Perilous to axles, I know.

Working on adustable strut top for the front, buy or build, don't know yet. Doesn't one of the Imp sets work?

Looked for pictures of your car. Where?

And where is the 24hr thing? Link?

Regards,

Jay

YAY! One more RX autocrossing! I cant wait to get mine back up and running...

Yeah, NO SM2!!!!!! These cars are in SM unless they are underweight, or overdisplacement.

Its a common mistake by locals to place 2 door cars in SM2 because the rules state 2 seater sports cars are in SM2 (RX7's and some others)...but, any SUBARU is in SM unless it doesnt meet min/max requirements.

It's nice to see you made it out to a BRR event finally!!!!! :) I drive an Impreza 2.5 RS BRP in STS there and I've seen you signed up before events but I haven't seen you at an event yet. It would figure the one time I go home that you would make it out to an event!!!! Lane's a good guy and means well but seeing Will and JWX in action, you'd be in SM ;) Nice pics. Radford's the only site I haven't been to in BRR. It's like a drug- you are warned. But I wouldn't quit my addiction for the world.
