dragonwingsubaru
well about 2 months ago i bought a set of trooper rims and drilled them out to fit my sooby pattern, the thread showing them is probably on page 10 or so by now.anyways i have only had them on for maybe a cpl days worth of time because of tire fitment issues and have already noticed they seem to be rubbing pretty badly on the studs. could this be because center is about an 1/8 inch or so bigger then the sooby center?? im begining to wonder if it will even be safe to keep running these rims once i get the the tire fit issues takes care of. calebz
This is just a guess, but i would bet that proper tapering of the holes + proper torque on tapered/acor type lug nuts would deal with your problem effectively. I have run three different sets of nonsoob rims on my wagon in the past year, none of which have the same center diameter as stock, and have had no problems with studs rubbing/shearing/loose in the holes. archemitis
try tightening the two original holes first. then check to see how centered the studs are in your drilled holes.
TurboSPFI
i used a half inch drill bit (the studs will slide through bearly) to drill out the rims. On the two holes that originally lined up, i put the lugnuts back on how they are supposed to be, this centers the wheel. On the two new holes, i took the lugnuts and turned them around backwards and put them on.. this helps keep the wheel on.. and its more of a flat on flat surface rather than a flat on cone surface. havent had a problem at all this way
WoodsWagon
I took a die grinder and put a tapered stone in it to make the taper in the holes. I would adress this problem right now, becase those studs aren't going to want to take that impact for long.
