shiningstar76
I have an 81 gl wagon 4WD 1600, and was wondering if anyone knew anything about the 1600. Is it correct to say that there were not alot of 1600's made? I have noticed that there don't seem to be many engine parts available. Will an 1800 ea81 fit in that car? Also, is the 1600 an ea81 or is that the ea71? I appreciate any help...as for myself, I have a solid background in aircooled VW flat fours, and have had a number of subaru's over the years. This 81 is by far my favorite and has been off the road for some time and would like to get it going again. Feel free to speak engine, I understand how the subaru works for the most part, just am new to engine numbers and parts interchangability. Thanks for the info. skip

Is it correct to say that there were not alot of 1600's made? Not really, but there's a lot less of them around these days. I have noticed that there don't seem to be many engine parts available.Yes,getting harder, depending on your location but overall getting difficult to find Subaru parts. Some aftermarket parts are readily available. Will an 1800 ea81 fit in that car? Yes,with some work, but nothing too serious.Make sure you have the starter in the same possition on both engines before you swap.I believe you'll need the front crossmember too.THere's a post on this already in the archives,I'm sure. Also, is the 1600 an ea81 or is that the ea71? 1600 = EA71 ,1800 OHV = EA81,and then the 1800 OHCam is the EA82 I appreciate any help...as for myself, I have a solid background in aircooled VW flat fours, and have had a number of subaru's over the years. shiningstar76
cant be as bad as a VW. Don't get me wrong, I love my bus, but the subaru has been started once a year for the last five, and never takes more than three tries. The bus, don't get me started.
