Why Still Bouncy after changing Shocks and Struts

Recommended Posts

Man-

I just bought this 89 Wagon and replaced the shocks and struts (with KYB GR2s) 'cause the ride was rough and one of the front struts was leaking. From reading the threads, this sounded like the way to get a smoooooooth ride. But after spending the $$$$$$$$$$$$, this car is still way bouncier than my 85 GL.... so does anyone have any ideas as to WHY??

I do know that when I went in for an alignment job, my cambers are different. But I figure that this only applies to the alignment and should only matter if I hit a bump.

Any advice....

a cadillac smooth ride takes totaly different shocks compared to a good handling ride. i thought those shocks were stiffer than stock shocks so they will dampen more and make the ride a little choppier, but you can take corners better, and lay power to the ground without the wheel bouncing as much.

maybe your old shocks were worn out just enough to make it feel smooth

Explain bumpy. J

Ok, so I took both cars (GL Wagons) down the street and my good car took the bumps in the road stiffly...I felt them but everything seemed normal. My car in question with those new struts/shocks hit these bumps in pavement and I bounced up and down much more, and even when I drove on a less bump ridden paved road, I felt like the car was still bouncing up and down as I am driving. Does that help??
