Intermittent Wipers...

..on Murphy the 87 T-Wag not working. Where is the relay that makes that work. the wipers work but don't return to the resting position, and I assume this is also controled by the same relay.

as a quick test, put another ground wire between the wiper motor and the body. That's all it took to fix the herky-jerky intermittant wipers on my car, and several other peoples cars IIRC.

In general (non-soob specific) wiper return is controlled by the wiper gearbox/contact plate. As suggested, a better ground might help.

On my turbo wagon, the electrical contacts in the wiper gearbox were all bent out of shape. I took the cover off (3 screws, if I remember correctly) and straightened them with some needlenose pliers.

 

They worked for another couple of years until I retired the car.

The control relay can cause exactly that symptom, its a large ish can up above the drivers feet on ea81s, probably the same on ea82.

I second Ross's post - a bad intermittant wiper controller can cause the same symptom.

 

On my '87 3-door it's located on the back of the kick panel above the driver's legs - just to the right of the fuse box. It's very easy to get to. I've yet to find it on my '89 (which has wiper problems). I think it is behind/above the ECU, but haven't had time to take things apart to find it.
