SuBaRiNo
Being in Australia... it is impossible for me to find a tow bar to suit an ea81 Hatch. Was there ever one made for these? Do people have them? I need some photos of some so i can look into getting one built. I assume the ea81 wagon tow bars don't fit. Can anyone help please? SuBaRiNo
Is that what you guys use? I have looked at a few wagon ones and they apear like they will stick out too far. Not to mention the fact that it will have trouble clearing the mufler. Dave

decorrupter
I have one, Its very small and simple, bolts through the body from underneath and then behind the bumper, cant be more than a class one. I never got to intall it on my 83 Hatch. I'll snap some photos for you if youd like.
Humble Nuto 53
i made one of square tube, suspended on the bumper bolts via plate, and bought a commercial tongue. the tongue bent on first use, but hasnt bent any more. side plates look somewhat triangular with a square bottom to match the tube, the angle goes to front of car. angle is there to clear the muffler, on passenger side its not needed. pull your bumper bolts, make a template of cardboard, or grocery bag, and remember that your muffler swings at least an inch when you accel/decel, and leave some room then i bolted the tongue through the member the rear seam of the gas tank is bolted to, and used big washers and a massive bolt with a piece of pipe around the bolt as spacer. SuBaRiNo
You guys are refering to a class? Is that the tow rating of it? Dave
dragonwingsubaru
yes the class rating it just saying how much weight it can handle. class 1 being the weakest and class 3 being the strongest.
SuBaRiNo
Thanks... i have never heard of these class rating before. Another thing... with thoughs with a tow hitch on your hatches... does it bend up under the metal sheeting that is behind the back bumper... or is there simply a hole cut in it for the tow hitch to come through? Any links to some rear photos of hatches with tow hitches at all? Dave
Humble Nuto 53
mine was already puckery and wrinkled, so i just trimmed it off just below the ridge under the bumper, and fibreglas'd the edges for stiffness and rust prevention.
dragonwingsubaru
man, sorry i had done forgot all about snaping that pic for you ill try to get it taken tomorrow afternoon before i go to work and post it in this thread for you. yeah the one i have bends below that sheetmetal before it curves up, and it was actually a very sturdy setup from my experience towing my 4x8 trailer behind it when i had it(the hatch)
