FSTOUR
our 01 outback sedan with an auto has a shift concern. when cold it holds 3rd gear, if you let off it will not drop back to second or upshift to fourth. this is most prevalent when going uphill. Once warm the concern goes away. the car has 72,000 miles and has been dealer seviced since new. the fluid level is okay and not burnt. no trans light has come on on the dash. our local dealer has said no prblems. it just has never done this before. the arranty is good for another 30,000 miles so I am no to concerned. Just wondering if anyone has had a simliar concern.
Legacy777
I know when the temp is cold, the trans will hold the 3rd gear.....however I doubt it's cold enough anywhere in the US for that to happen right now.
Midwst
pay close attention and if it happens again, demand that they fix it! Thats my 2 cents...have driven many subarus with only 86, 93, 110K miles all with bad trannies. Subaru should be ashamed! If you can get a new one for free, DO IT!!! If necessary, demand that the service manager drive your car for several days until the problem occurs...yes dealers do that for difficult intermitant cases. friendly_jacek
Read your car manual, it is suppoosed to stay in 3rd to warm up the fluid.
