atranger
My son has a 1990 Legacy wagon. He says it is making a whining noise when he presses the gas pedal. Could this be the fuel pump? Rick
Setright
The fuel pump would be more likely to make a "whirr" noise. It could be an electrical problem that interferes with the stereo and whines through the speakers. If the alternator diodes have burned out it will produce AC instead of DC and make a whining noise. It will also tend to get abnormally hot.
Legacy777
if the car is off, ignition in the ON position, and gas pedal pressed, you will hear a noise, it's normal.
