1985GLWAGON
Hey folks, low speed doesn't work on my blower. I have one broken resistor in my resistor pack and I want to know if I can solder it back together? It's snapped right in the middle and would be easy to solder but do they get too hot? Will it just melt the solder on the first use? I know I could just replace it, but that takes $$!
heep70
I tried to solder mine. Couldn't get the solder to stick. They put some sort of coating on the wire. I ended up putting a porcelain resistor in its place. Worked fine tell the middle one broke. I got lucky and found a good one in the salvage yard. 1985GLWAGON
Crap, that's what I figured, nothing is ever easy. Oh well, thanks for the info!
heep70
If it is the thin coil try a porcelain resistor from Radio Shack. If I remember right it was a .47 ohm. If you want I can check it out at home, I still have it. I just snipped the broken coil out and soldered in the resistor. Like I mentioned it worked just fine, but the middle coil decided to go like six months later.
1985GLWAGON
Nah, that's alright, I'll just cough up the cash for a pack instead, with my luck it'd start on fire or something if I messed with it. Thanks for the info!
heep70
They are located under the pass dash by your toes. If they are broke the fan will not work at certain speeds. The whinning is probably the bearing in the motor.
1985GLWAGON
umm... what whining? Everything else works great, no strange noises or anything, just not 1st speed on blower. Actually I probably won't even fix it, I'll just use the other 3 speeds for now.
heep70
Thats funny, someone else had posted here and the post is gone. He had said something about whinning. The forum police must be baord.
