simbey1982
Hello all, Had a little meet with oddcomp today and we looked over my engine. We agreed that perhaps only the rod bearings are hosed and that the power loss in the engine is the knock sensor retarding the timing...... So im asking you gurus who tear into engines...is this theory plausible?? and if i unbolt the Oilpan, will i be able to get to the bearings and rods?? THanks for the help Cory For more info check out the initail post http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41825

It's definately plausible, the knock sensor signal can prod the ECU to yank 10 or more degrees of timing. That's gonna knock the wind out of the midrange torque and give you molasses-like throttle response. Have you done a compression check? Also what is the cause of the screech noise? I'm not certain about refreshing the bottom-end ...from the bottom-end.
simbey1982
Well the screeching noise was only present for about 2 minutes when we first started the engine...now it just has a nasty rod knock...it idles fine but the midrange is gone...... Any other confirmations

I know the shop I use to work at has a few used EJ22 longblocks on the shelf, maybe a shortblock too. The name of the place it Mt. Tech, their number is 503-650-3686, and their open Tuesday to Saturday 8 to
oddcomp
eh i was not totally sure i figured since it was a bigger motor there might have been room to do it
