Ok, old Im pretty familliar with all the in's & out's or the EA series motor's, But now im stepping up to the world of EJ.

I have a 2.2T out of a legacy that i am planning on putting in my 88 RX.

What i would like to know is, What is everyone doing to get extra pony's out of these little motors?

I mean to leave nothing untouched!, nothing unmodified, Lots of $$$ and patience i know but i mean to leave NOTHING but the block untouched!

I don't intend on using the stock wiring or ecu either, After market ECU & harness as to keep the compartment clean looking.

So, I'm wondering why you didn't go with a WRX engine, either JDM or USDM?

I'm going with the 2.2 couse it was free, Just kinda fell into my hands.

If i find that the 2.2 isn't capible of the performance im looking for i might just go with the 2.5 WRX motor.

start by going dohc, then upgrade to a wrx turbo and full wrx exhaust, intake and intercooler... and then go from there...

Can you convert the 2.2 to DOHC?

How?

For starters good choice...tons can be done.I agree head swap over to a 2.5dohc head is a good start. You could use the wrx turbo or go for the sti turbo. I recomend switching over to the sti injectors.Use the intake manifold off of the 2.5dohc and do some minor mods and fit an sti TB and MAF.I for one feel that the block from the ej22t is stronger than the wrx.Cobb tuning may have some stuff for that engine like forged pistons if you want to go that route allthough the stock pistons and connecting rods are good for 300+ hp.Very cool project.

port and polish the heads and have them bench tested and flowed. have a head specialist (machine shop) look at the valve train for possibilities on valve improvements.

have the fuel injectors professionally cleaned (RC Engineering) and a valve job done. no point in all this work without stuff performing up to their potential.

Ok, i been doing alot of looking around so far trying to find componets for the heads, I have found 1mm larger valves but have not found larger valve seats, i also have not found valve guides, i would asume that if i took the valves and heads into a machine shop they could do the rest.

i will be going new injectors as well, WRX sounds fine to me:brow:

I have also found lighter pistons and rods suposedly rated for more power than stock, mostly just looking at them being lighter tho, Lighter balancer and flywheel/ Cluth

Might anyone know if there are after market throttle body's for these things?

Alltho i am not ready just yet i am making a list of what needs and can be done, nothing wrong with planning ahead, This isn't going to be somthing i throw togeather in a wekkend, it's going to be done rite, and as i said in my first post "NOTHING will be un-touched"

I am also wondering about oil delivery, anyone know of a higher volume oil pump?
