jnjeisen
This is my first post and unfortunately I have a nightmare with my VW vanagon and it's Subaru EA81. Here's the deal...I was on a long road trip when all at once smoke started pouring out of the engine compartment. Upon inspection, I found the three wingnuts that hold the lid down on the air breather loose and oil coming out of there and finding it's way to the exhaust and burning off. I cleaned it out and put it back together and it seemed to work ok for about 200 miles and then it started leaking oil out of the rear main (recently replaced). It was going through about 1 quart per 50 miles of travel. Now its even coming out of the seal on the starter. I have noticed an enormous amount of air coming out of the oil filler cap when I take it off while the engine is running. The whole engine seems to be under pressure after it warms up. The engine is strong and does not seem to burn oil internally(out of the exhaust. I cut off the catalytic converter in case it was restricting the air flow. any Ideas??? Turbone
Sounds like the PVC system is totally clogged. Change the valve and take the hoses off and check them, they could be clogged up with residue.
Qman
I am guessing that considering the quick onset of the problem that you may have broke a ring or have a hole in a piston. A compression check should be the first thing you do.
