Whoa... what a day...

Went out seeking a Y-pipe for my XT DL, found a guy parting out an 87 sedan. We agreed on $20 for the pipe. Fair enough. I got to his house, started checking out the car, played with the 4WD shifter on the trans a bit. He says... how about $50 for the trans and the pipe? Now I really don't have any use for another transmission, but for $50, you just can't turn that down.

So, I got to work on the tranny. I kept eyeing the 4-spoke alloys on the car, finally I asked the guy about them. He didn't really want to let them go, and I didn't have much more money to offer, so I decided to let them slide. Once I had the drive shaft off the trans, the guy told me the car needs to be rollable- so the carrier bearing either has to go back on the car, or the shaft had to come off. I asked him if I could just take the shaft, and he let me have it. Sweet! After 2 hours of work I had the trans out and loaded into the car, and I was getting ready to leave when... the guy says, how about $25 for those wheels and tires? The tires had some pretty meaty tread left on them too.

So there I was last night, had just gone after a Y pipe, and came home with a D/R trans, drive shaft, Y pipe, and a nice set of alloy wheels and tires, all for $75! Good thing I don't have a wife to piss off with all this stuff!

Heh, I really love making deals like that.

As for the transmission- it's already spoken for. So don't come around asking to buy it! :D

Yeah, I know what you are saying, I just swung by a yard that I haven't been to in about 2 yrs and he had a wagon (@87) that had a D/R 5spd and 2, yes 2, custom hitches both looked to be class 3. I can have it all for 150. And the best part is that is 150 pulled. I don't even have to get my hands dirty. (Yes, the hitches are front and rear). I feel lucky today too

Ok, Just have to top it off, I went to a yard just down the road from that one and there was a yoda with really nice rims. (I'm gonna have those soon too, there's a story that goes with it....)

My wife HATES my subarus. Remember that movie the burning bed. If things get too bad, then it'll be the burning Scoobs.

Funny thing is she wanted me to purchase either a new 2.5RS or a WRX. I went for the XT Turbo and she was like :madder: $$$$$. Oh well, I tried.

Congrats on your haul! Where I'm from I can ask for the floor mats and the guys are like, "Oh they are the special edition subaru mats. I'll part with them for $100". :banghead: Buncha hustlas!

Hey Rob....

Ok I do gotta admit when it comes to the parts cars I do draw a line... Cause we already look like a used car lot out here... We have 7 cars and there is only 2 of us.... I dont mind the parts cars so much if Tim didnt have more irons then fire... I did try Sat to get him another parts car this guy showed up at our house just before Tim was to get home from out of town... Offered him a parts car for free... I said "sure" Picked Tim up at the airport told him I got him another subbie... But we went to look at it and it was not what he needed and not worth the trouble of towing home.. He let that one go.... Vicky
