zonk3939
I just replaced the rear brake pads on a 98 Forester S.When driving down the road,I get a metal screeching noise..unless I apply gentle pressure to the brakes and it goes away. Are there shims I may have forgotten to install? Yes. Did you use a genuine Subaru pad Kit? Those shims come with the kit.
Dickensheets
Those shims even come with the cheapy kits in my experience. Look around your work space and in the trash - you may find them. Also spray some Brake Quiet onto both sides of the shim before installing.
1 Lucky Texan
While there can be a little noise for the first few stops while the pads 'wear in' ,if you've never done a brake job before, I can see where it would be easy to throw the shims/plates away accidently. Everything's the same color and those shims are stuck on sometimes with the anti'rattle grease/stuff so it isn't obvious it's a seperate component. I dunno about a metallic screeching - more like squealing. Still, quite likely. Carl
