Rocker Placement. OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW! HELP!

also make sure the 'key' on the cam is pointing straight up. That puts it in a position where none of the valves are pushed in, making it much easier to slip the cam tower on and not knock the rockers off.

 

edit: also makes it easier when you go to put the timing belts back on since it will already be where it needs to be.

When I replace rockers I do it with the engine on a rotisserie. I turn the engine 90 degrees so that gravity holds everything in place. I use lube of some sort on the parts too so as to avoid dry startup. But when the engine is upright you need some THICK stuff to hold it on there good.

 

yeah i even tried jacking the passenger side up as high as i could safely, and gravity still wouldnt hold the bastards on there without some thick thick stuff.... .

 

....and the engine was still in the car... i WISH i had a rotisserie.

this might be a bit late, and maybe inaccessible BUT

 

 

PJ1 Blue Label

 

its an effervescent motorcycle chain lube.

(goes on bubbly and very thin, then dries tacky.

on the chain the trick is to wipe off the excess, then the dirt doesnt

stick. i use it on the bicycles also, even in winter.)

 

wipe your surfaces, spray both the parts, let em set a while or use

a dryer or hot air gun, and i believe they will stick even upsidedown.

 

wynn's viscotene is similar but i havent seen that stuff around in years.
