duse_500_2001
Hi, I am new to the forum so forgive me if this has been posted before. I am looking at a leftover 2004 Forsetor XT turbo & read that it requires high octane gas only. Does anybody know if that is fact or not? Also, does anybody have any reviews or opinion (good & bad) on them? Thanks.

duse_500_2001
Well what I have read in this review (http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2004/04/20/190534.html), I wasn't really that impressede. Certainly not economical on gas at 20 MPG. I haven't driven it but I am sure it moves.
subyrally
you can get an ecutek for it and have it tuned to run on regular or mid grade if you dont want to pay the extra$ for premium. but then again, that isnt cheap either. no matter what you do, it might be abit pricey on gas. but youll forget all about that once you get behind the wheel. its so fun to run around in a turbo suby. wrxman
Subaru recommends premium gas in all their turbos but most of the people I know with them just use premium every other fill up.

If I understand how the ECU and knock sensor work - that technique would be worse than just switching to mid-grade. There will be several start cycles where you've paid for for the hi-grade but the ECU has not changed the map back to advanced timing. Plus, there is 'some' eveidence that not running hi-grade gas is a false economy due to poorer mileage with lo-grade.
subieman
This has been talked about quite a bit over on the Forester message board. http://www.subaruforester.com/
