xjosh
I've got a lot of oil creeping it's way up into my air filter and is making a huge mess up there. Any way to fix this, or at least make it so it isn't as bad?
Snowman
It's coming up throught the PCV system. Get a new PCV valve from Subaru (aftermarket ones don't work) and clean out the hose that attaches to it.
Alex C
Another cause is one of the brather hoses came off one fo the valve covers. i learned that the hard way. Alex

GLCraig
A loose oil cap could be the cause too.
wesley willis
strange, drivers side breather hose was super clogged until i made the condensator (which works, might i add). i had to blow my lungs out until a bunch of clumps of sooty crap shot out the end. there's a few drops of oil in the air cleaner housing, and the pcv filter (little square of foam) had a bit of oil in it, nothing serious. the first thing i replaced on my car after i bought it was a pcv valve because the thing had a huge crack in it. torxxx
Heres whats wrong: 1. Too much oil in engine - my roomate's car leaks oil, and instead of checking it he'd just dump a quart in every few days. needless to say, when I got to looking at it, he had 8 1/2 quarts of oil in it. Made a huge mess in the airbox. 2. Plugged PCV lines (replace with 5/8" heater core hose. more flexible, cheap replacement instead of the molded "Subaru" hoses" 3. Plugged PCV valve - get one from SUBARU. dont buy any other brands. they arent worth the hassle of replacing one in 6 months or 6 days
Bobby_boucher
Could also mean massive blowby: does the car smoke much on start up??

xjosh
Nope, It does not have too much oil...at least not since I have had it. Never smokes at all, except for all of the oil being burned off of the motor. I'm going to go continue cleaning everything with Engine Brite and take off all of the vaccum lines individually and clean them. What about a PCV valve or line off of my parts car. Could I use that or do I need to just go get another?
