iluvdrt
I think I found the problem to my spark issue. On the way to work my car is running like crap. I finish work and now it wont start. I am getting 12 volts to the coil, but no spark from the coil. I replaced the coil and still no spark. I am thinking it is the ignitor. Is that the thing under the coil that fixes to the coil bracket? If not what is that....because I broke it.
idosubaru
yes the ignitor could be your problem and that is it under the coil. pretty common among older roos, should be easy enough to source.
iluvdrt
I just went and got an ignitor from the local J/Y. Same problem, no spark. I know this is a good one, because they said the car ran. What about the distributor pick up, would that do it. Should I change the distributpr? Skip
Dirty, as no vehicle is specified I'll guess the turbo in your signature if this is the case there is no pick up in the distributor It is a crank angle sensor type distributor. Btw the item under the coil is not the ignitor it is the ignition amplifier. The signal output from the ECU is so small it needs amplified before the coil will fire properly. The "ignitor" is in a distributor that does not have a crank angle sensor and is called a "pick up" by some. Make sure the coil bracket has a good ground. archemitis
is it a flapper maf or a hotwire? i have seen an 87 with a flapper, so if it is a flapper, there is a wire inside that will break, because of the mechanical advance. could be the disty. Its a hot wire. I gave up. I am going to sell her as is. I have been fighting this problem for 2 years, but it always ran....just like crap, missing, and sputtering, blowing black smoke. I have replaced the dizzy, "amplifier", all basic Ign. componets, fuses, basically everything in the Ign circut except the ecm. I am at a loss. I am going to sell her cheap (to bad as I have a NEW WRX TMIC with a new Turbo XS BOV I was going to install). and get a carbed or SPFI DR wagon. I am tired of trying to fix my "dependable" car.
