Green96GT
I was the middle guy in a 3 car pile-up today. I was stopped and the guy behind me nailed me pretty good and whacked me into the car in front. The bumpers are deformed (actually the front bumper looks pretty good!), but among other things I am getting some noise from under the car which sounds like an exhaust or downpipe leak. I'm guessing that the impact knocked something loose. The car also seems to be running differently in a way that's hard to pinpoint or describe, and I want to make sure all damage (not just the body) is fixed when I deal with the insurance co. In your experience, are there any non-body related, mechanical problems which could be caused by a collision, which I should look out for so I can get them fixed? nipper
Check my screen name - that should give you a hint!!! BTW, it's a wagon. hehe sorry the ultracet is kicking in. Check all the body gaps, make sure they are still even. Look closly at the hood and c pillar chaeck for buckling. Look under the bumper skins, there is prbbly alot of damage there. Depending upon if you were stoped or rolling, there could be alot of force transmitted to the driveline. Check the exhaust system and engine mounts. Look at your radiator hoses and see if they look odd. Make sure the hatch seals and operates. Take a hose to the doors and hatch and see if they leak at all, assuming they didnt before. Make sure everything stilll works in the car. Go to a GOOD bodyshop. They will also check alignment and the cahssis to make sure its still straight. And dont forget about the Dr thing ... trust me thats the reason i have the ultracet right now. Damage from a car accident. How fast was he going when he hit you, any idea? nipper
Setright
Sorry to hear that! Make sure you have the car looked over, plastic bumpers have a tendency to pop back into shape and conceal the damage to the car frame.
Green96GT
How fast was he going when he hit you, any idea? nipper Not sure how fast, but my airbag didn't deploy (thank goodness). He was going prolly 45 mph and 100 ft behind me when he hit the brakes and skidded, and knocked me pretty good. I was stopped. Thanks for the advice re: things to check! nipper
Ok i got slammed at 50 mph (july 1) while i was at a red light and the car was totaled, it was a 97 legacy. I ended up with a twisted knee, ankle, hips and a herniated disc. My car was driveable for a few weeks then it started making a sound it never made before. After i parked it in the driveway for a week, I noticed a very very subtle kink in the hood. That was not there before. So make sure you go over the car with a fine tooth comb, and also yourself too. nipper
