Well adjust the clutch cable, and see what happens, but a little slip usually doesnt go away a clutch adjustment. The haynes manual has some interesting tests for clutch problems. They have a spindown test, with the car in neutral, at idle speed, press the clutch, count to three seconds and shift in reverse, there should be no grinding.

Another from Haynes is hold the clutch pedal 1/2 inch off the floor (parking brake on) car idleing, shift the car between 1st and reverse several times. If the shift is rough, the clutch assy is defective.

One i use is try to start the car off from a dead stop in third gear. The car should buck and fight and maybe stall. If you can do it, you have a clutch starting to go out.

no, all i've ever driven are manuals. The original owner had a new clutch in at 65k, and I bought the car at 90k. It now has 120k. If anyone it to blame, I want to blame the previous owner.

 

My moms 95 Legacy has 200k before the original clutch went.

 

 

My clutch won't slip in any gear at any speed except hard launchs in first.

 

I'll try and adjust it and see if it helps.

hehehe well then dont do that :)

I had a 1988 gl that went to its grave with the original clutch... at 226K.

like I said it depends upon the freeplay at the the pedal.

 

Free play at the pedal should be 3/8 - 3/16 of an inch.

If its not there you loosen it, if its too much you tighten it. Also inspect the cable to make sure its not fraing and the cable housing is good.

If you tighten it, clockwise, then the "bite point" will move further up the pedal travel.

Loosening it will bring the "bite point" closer to the floor. Overdo this and shifting will become difficult.

 

 

I assume you know that there are two nuts. A12mm that is the adjustment, and 10mm to lock it with.

 

I would recommend loosening it 360 degrees. OR, taking you foot off the clutch pedal when you press the accelerator to the floor ;-)
