tommy
Don't know how to really explain it .. but here goes. Just bought a 92 wagon legacy L for $600 and it wont start. Here's the symptoms: No/Little Fuel Up Front Spark Plug fires randomly. As in. just with the key on, not in start position After you turn it over, seconds later .. poof. Its like a back fire or compression change. 3rd A/C relay in the engine bay from the front clicks like a suno*********un There's a hum/hiss when the keys in on position and i push the throttle linkage. What I've already done: Pulled the fuel pump out from in tank, checked it, works fine. Put 12v directly to pump and got fuel coming out of the return up front. Any ideas anybody on anything above ?? nipper
Just because the pump flows liquid, doesnt mean its good. Depends upon the pressure and gallons per minute. Check the timing, it sounds like the timing is way off, maybe a jumped timing belt? Does this run at all? The ac relay clicking like crazy sounds like a dead short someplace. You may just want to pull it out and attack that problem later. Hum hiss, not sure what you mean. nipper
tommy
hum/hiss = buzzing noise from the engine compartment. It can turn over / run for a few seconds on starting fluid. Every couple trys. I'm really confused about the sparks plug firing randomly on its own. With out trying to start the car.. Just hook the battery up, turn the key to the ON position, pull the plug and wire out, and it will randomly spark. (tried with multiple different plugs) and only one plug at a time. -- i know, the car has lots of issues --
nipper
Ok so we need to break this down. Its firing randomly. There is something called an ignitor that controls the spark. Two cylinders on opposite strokes of the engine fire together. Gte yourself a haynes manual, as it can partially talk you through the procedure. I am begining to think you mave a harness short someplace. Carefully inspect all the harnesses under the hood for any abrasions or damage. This with the relay clicking, and the buzzing with theignition on and not running.... sounds like a short. If its a short it may have ruined the ignitor. They also say to check the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors. This sparking happens with the car in the on position, and NOT cranking? nipper
tommy
yup, car ON, not in the start. actually, it doesn't spark when you crank it.
nipper
You got electrical issues my freind. Is your battery fully charged and are the cable ends clean and tight. Do you have 13 volts at the battery. Lets start there. Load test the battery and see if it can stand cranking. nipper
