Caboobaroo
So the other day, I tried to fire up the RX, first time since I've done a whole bunch of work to it. So when I tried to start it, it sounded like the timing was off so I reset the disty to TDC and whatnot. Still nothing and it still sounded like the timing was off (backfiring though the TB). I think it might be my timing belts but I got on here when I did them and read through it all and I reread it a few days ago and I believe I did it right. What could it possibly be? suberdave
if the car has been sitting for a while. it could be lifters with no oil, or sticky valves, probably sticking open. if it has not been sitting but you just did lots of work to it, thin im not sure, but remember the only things you need to make a engine run are: compression, fuel, and fire. hope this helps

So I guess its time to pull the radiator back out and rework the timing belts. Also gives me an excuse to install the spyder intake now;)

All_talk
Check the screw that holds the rotor in the distributor, I've seen them come loose more than once. In fact I recently picked up a very nice '90 loyal sedan for next to nothing due to this, the owner thought the T-belts had gone. And BTW, the EA82 runs pretty well with one cam retarded a tooth. Gary I already changed the rotor and cap and I made sure it was tight with a little bit of mild locktite because I too have seen them come loose. I guess it also gives me an excuse to put my Delta cams in it as well;) I'm gonna see what the timing is set at when I get back home here in a couple weeks since I'm still a couple hours away working.
