PeterD
heck is wrong with auto parts stores. I have an O2 sensor on my 82 wagon. i need to replace it. NAPA, AutoZone, Smucks, a few other mom and pop parts houses don't have my part. they show me that they carry an OEM replacemnt and a universal O2 sensor. both are identical, both have a wire comeing off of them but the oem wire connector is different than the universal connector. my O2 sensor dosn't even have a connector like there so called OEM replacement. my O2 sensor has what looks like a spark plug type connection. no wire coming off the sensor. when i follow the wire up to a few plugs it looks as if i have 2 wires coming out from that 02 sensor plug. any one have some pointers for me. most of my searching has come up with nothing.. is the subaru 02 sensor just a 2 wire deal... PeterD
after looking up some emmisions ilistrations in my manual i see that the 02 sensor that i have is shown on the diagram with an hitachi carb. with an 02 sensor and the 02 sensor harness. the Carter/weber shows an entirely different o2 sensor and a different diagram. i have an engine with a carter/weber carb and the o2 sensor and wire from a hitachi carbed car... and the original engine was the same engine.. with a single barrel carter/weber carb. hooziewhatsit
just cut and splice your connector on to whichever O2 sensor is cheaper. I had to do the same thing on the bosch universal I got a few months ago.
PeterD
here is the plug that was hooked up to the 02 sensor on the sensor itself. here is the harness that the 02 sensor plug connected too. note the two wires.. why two? if its 2 then how can a universal sensor work? and the sensor itself sorry for the big picts its the best way for me to explain it. ThreeEyedBandit
The White wire is the one you want to use, the second is a sheilded ground wire so the computer dosent pick up noise. So you will want to just splice the universal sensor into the white wire as close to the O2 Sensor, as to retain the sheilding. Matt
