October 20, 200520 yr I remember that's a guy on here that has a viscous center diff from a legacy in his loyale, WITH dual range, and with the 4.111 gears...or either it was an 87~89 wagon. It's dark blue with 15" pugs on it. I used search...no success.
October 20, 200520 yr Author if thats the guy who has the legacy viscous center in the D/R with the 4.111 gears...yes. hes out west somewhere as he sent me some nice pics of his wagon out in the country.....i cant find that email or the PM.

October 21, 200520 yr The guy goes by Beefaru. The issue has been brought up before, and he's not sure how it all worked...a subaru mechanic put the box together for that car. If you do find something out, PLEASE let me know. A 4.11:1 ratio in a d/r 5 speed would be THE BOMB for my setup.

I am 100% sure the 4.111 and 4.444 ring/pinion are direct drop ins...but I dont care about that. I want the center diff conversion information.
October 21, 200520 yr see if you can't get the number for the shop or the guy who did it and see what all you can dig outta them... then post it in the USRM so we all can do a swap like that;)
October 21, 200520 yr Cook, thanks. I am 100% sure the 4.111 and 4.444 ring/pinion are direct drop ins DO TELL!!!!!!!!! How do U know this? have U done it? Have U seen it done? I would give my left fam. jewl to know for sure how it's done! I would kill for 4.44's in a D/R 5spd box:D
October 21, 200520 yr Right on, so this would be 1st hand info. Are the R&P the same for the RX box and the GL D/R box? Any body? (can't tell I'm desperate can ya?:-p )
October 21, 200520 yr Author i think the pinons are different on some. I need some parts books and stuff to look at. either way, the phase 1&1.5 boxes are VERY simlar overall in design with the RX and other S/R FT4WD boxes.
October 21, 200520 yr The ring gears are interchangable. The pinion shafts are not. The problem is from the factory these are a matched set and are curved to one another. Swapping is doable but you need to keep in mind that the gears might not mesh together initially causing the trans to whine and they could wear out prematurely. But really, who cares! I just swapped out the stub axles on my RX Box so this is fresh in my mind.
October 21, 200520 yr I'm hoping that a couple of very close fluid changes with some sort of high pressure trannie fluid additive will deal with the meshing issues. If all goes well then I'll be ordering the 4.44's next week.
