Mark Humble
Are all EA82 heads cracked? Every head I have looked at has been cracked between the seats. They don't leak into the water jacket. Ok to run? Mark
NoahDL88
9 times out of 10 the crack won't affect the head, all the ones i've pulled were cracked and still worked great.
Snowman
There was a TSB released saying that bridge cracks are normal and don't affect the running of the engine. If it's been severely overheated, or you can see that the cracks obviously extend into either port, that's a problem. Otherwise, use a small punch to tap the cracked portion down a bit (prevents detonation) and run them.
soobscript
Just had mine professionally checked, pressure test. No leaking from the crack between valves. There was a TSB too. No problem unless the crack is 1.2mm wide IIRC (which is HUGE). Just pulled some Gen3 heads from the yard with only one tiny crack on the #3 cylinder (closest to turbo).
