Dr Subenstien
take off your heat riser tube that goes from the air cleaner to a shroud on the passenger side exhaust if it smooths out there is a hole there it happened to me once the intake was sucking in a whole lot of exhaust gasses and making it run real bad good luck

aussie
Okay, if finished checking the vacuum hoses. they are all okay. no probs at all. i also checked wiring. doesnt seem to be any probs there. but i must ahve missed something cos im sure its a lose wire somewhere. i checked the wire that comes off the solinoied mounted on the front of the carby, that was a bit loose and dirty, but i cleaned it up with some sandpaper etc and a pair of pliers and its in there good now, i thort that made a difference cos when i started the car again she ran real smooth for about thirty sec, then it was like somone flipped a switch and away it went again just like the proverbial hooker. im still going nuts here. any more ideas? what other wiring should i check? thanks Aussie
Ross
Coil? Mine has similar symptoms due to a leak or something in the carb - when i adjust the idle mixture, it makes very little difference at all and it will idle lean no matter what. Runs fine off idle though.
Dr Subenstien
Spray carb and choke cleaner around the base of the carb and listen if the moters sound changes if it does change then you have a leak on the carbs seal at the intake be carefull not to start a fire with the carb cleaner
