Ever Victorious
Hey guys - I popped the hood open on the XT this morning to see if I could quickly pop in the spare cone filter I have laying around, and noticed that as opposed to having an intake hose screw down on both sides of the MAF tube, this one has the engine side screwed down, but is bolted to an adapter plate in the incoming side. How does one hook up a cone filter in this scenario? Is there an adapter plate that bolts to the MAF that provides a tube for the cone filter to affix to? NoahDL88
I believe that there is an adapter for the B13 Rotax motor that fits our MAF, although i caution you, a cone filter will only increase noise, not airflow. I flow benched a bunch of stuff back in college on our flow bench, and all values were within 3 cfm no matter what the filter setup.
cmiller
I agree, the EA 82 intake is pretty much as good as it gets no matter what kind of filter. I have seen people do complete overhauls of intakes ie from new Subarus, but thats alot of time and money. An EJ series engine is more responsive to a change in filter types than the EA82. Plus the EA82 is allready pulling cold air from the wheel well. A cone filter will just take in the warm air from the engine compartment. You can take out the intake muffler/snorkle deal in the wheel well to get the nice growl sound from the intake. Other than that I am aout of ideas. Who knows, I could be wrong... I just can't find any more ways to greatly improve the EA82 intake. The SPFI models also run a tad lean which haveing more air doesn't help without a fuel system upgrade. I have searched and searched and haven't found anything super big. But if someone else has done something different that has worked well please share the info:)
Ever Victorious
I understand that all I get is increased noise. that was the point. But if it changes the intake from cool to warm air, then it's really not worth it.

Yeah, well just take out the muffler deal thats in the wheel well and you will get the nice noise you are looking for and also keep the cold air coming in. You can build a baffle so that it pulls cold air instead of hot. a lot of people forget this step when they put that short ram setup on their hondar
Subarutex
How do you feel about Home Depot racing parts? I have a Home Depot racing MAF adapter, maybe even an extra one. I'll see if I can find it, and I'll help you install it!

TheSubaruJunkie
My EA82T used an adapter from a 1988 Nissan Sentra. Got it off ebay for $12 shipped which included the cone filter. I noticed an increase in acceleration. After the cone filter went on, there was no more stumble or hesitation upon acceleration. Im going to be working on a new intake pipe that will replace the plastic tube that leads to my turbo. We'll see what that does. -Brian
