nipper
I dont think these cars dont have valve bodies anymore (not sure about your year), they have solenoids, and the transmission puter controls shifitng. It sounds like you have a stuck or bad solenoid. I dont know if that would cause a code or not. sounds like the solenoid is weak or sticky. nipper

I dont want to pay $250 for something he is not sure . I work on the car my self and I try to change it my self if I have a little help from you guys. Is there a few solenoids or only one? If few then wich one control shifting? Tnx for help!!!
nipper
One solinoid for each shift point 1-2 2-3 3-4 They are in the transmission, and depending upon part cost, that may not be bad price. Get another opinion..but that deosn sound bad. My repair manual doesnt really cover the auto traiines that much aside from seals and R and R nipper

Just those guys never will let me go unless it is 600+ at the end, since they allredy worn me that transmission rebuilt is $2000 they will find something else. I try different places for a quote, but I think beter to find a junky yard tranny and install it my self. 181000 is too much anyway and not much life left on other parts. Or subaru runs more then that?
nipper
my 97 OBW has 181K on it, just had the tranny flushed, and runs like a top .. if oyou can get a lower milage unit for 250? then there is the labor to install. Just your options. nipper
Tiny Clark
Isn't there a possibility that the computer output that controls that solenoid is bad? I don't have the experience to know which one is more likely to go bad. With that many miles, you could always just drive it that way, maybe just learn to shift it manually. 1 Lucky Texan
Seems like it MUST be the TCU to me. Otherwise, how could it be shifted manually if that just tells the TCU to activate the 1-2 solenoid? I dunno, but I'd try the TCU or a flush first. Is it somewere I can rich without pulling the trany out? I check the solenoid is about $50 , I don't know about TCU, but I beter change them both. By the way is anybode want this car for $1500 as is? Tiny Clark
I don't know that much about new trannies, but doesn't mechanical shifting override the solenoid operation? Beats the heck outta me.

Beats the heck outta me. Yeah, maybe I jumped to conclusions. I just figired the same general system would be operated either by the TCU (Transmission Control Unit) based on various inputs or by hand. I suppose it may vary by model too. I dunno, I guess I'm outta my league here! lol!
