75subie
go with a ej22 instead.its a more reliable engine, plus better gas milage, and an easier swap.FYI subaru didn`t make a v6. contact tailgatewagon for details on the ej22 swap
Jibs
Dang. Maybe he doesn't WANT an ej22. Try contacting Lumpycam, I believe he had a v-6 in his lifted 79 Brat. He'd be the one to talk to.
75subie
dang, just some friendly advice, but if you want to do more work, thats ok.
Jibs
dang, just some friendly advice, but if you want to do more work, thats ok. well that's all well and good, but he didn't ask how to swap an ej22 into it. If he wants to try to put a v-6 into his soob, the guy to talk to would be lumpycam. If he talks to lumpycam and then figures it's too hard or is too much trouble, maybe THEN he'll ask about an ej22 swap. It just irks me a little when people ask for one thing and get a whole bunch of replys about another. I mean ABSOULUTELY NO offense 75subie, just giving my .02 cents. subarubrat
Let me try a different angle. I assume that you want to swap in a V6 for HP, figuring that an 8 was too big and heavy and a 6 would be a good match. The reason an EJ22 was suggested is because it is a Subaru motor that is known to fit and would give a similar result with less weight and is a better fit than a 6. As you know the engine is ahead of the front wheels, making a V6 a very tough fit if you intend on preserving the stock drivetrain layout. Now, I myself would suggest a Subaru 4 but not the EJ22 because although it is near double the stock HP, much more can fit in the same package. A WRX engine and tranny will adapt nicely and with a simple reflash your at 280 very reliable HP.
NoahDL88
Hello to all!!I have a 1980 Brat and I would like to put a v-6 down in it. Does anyone have any sujestions for me??? post sump'tn or e-mail me at whitwolf71@hotmail.com My suggestion would be twofold, 1, don't cross post, if you post the same question in more than one forum, one will get deleted. 2, Someone put a 2.8 "iron duke" V-6 into an old school subie, but i don't know what tranny he used, I'd reccomend a 2.2 or 2.5 subie motor, any more torque then that and you are really gonna want an aftermarket rear axle, cause the stock axles arn't gonna cut it anymore. FirstSubaruGLwagon
didnt subaru make an H-6 ?????? Or am i thinking of the Porshe pancake 6??? Or you could put in an old dodge slant 6 with a EFI kit good low-end torqe
subarubrat
Subaru has produced several H6 engines. One of which, the ER27, I use in my BRAT and it is a VERY tight fit in a gen II. A dodge or jeep IL6 would make the problem of length of the engine even more of a nightmare.

Snowman
I remmeber chevy made a 2.8 v6 for s-10s and blazersvery small engine,, but it had like NO power sorry,, im blogging Yeah, not a good motor for power or longevity in my opinion. HOWEVER, in the Isuzu troopers, there is a 2.8 v6 that uses the same bottom end as the Chevy but with different heads and stuff that is a much better engine. Just thought I'd mention that as probably the best candidate if you've got your heart set on a V6. A WRX engine would be so sick in a gen 1 though. Or a hotted up EJ25 for that matter...Cobb tuning has them running up to 650hp reliably.
