"EJ"
I know this has nothing to do with older gen subarus but with the recent doings of some of the board memebers and the Con I thought some of you might enjoy this. This is from "Autoweek" Sept 29, 2003. "Motorsport engineering specialist PRODRIVE is evaluating a project to build a special Subaru Impreza that would mount a challenge for the Pikes Peak Hill Climb course record in Colorado next year. No one has broken the 10-minute barrier at Pikes Peak. Prodrive builds and operates Subaru's factory team cars in the World Rally Championship. Its drivers, Petter Solberg and Tommi Makinen, sit second and eighth respectively in the standings." I think this would be a serious feather in the cap for Subaru, I can see the TV commericals with Subaru's doing the CON, Pikes Peak.
ezapar
A couple of years ago I saw a Pikes Peak climb on speed vision. A subaru rally car was among the cars. It placed second behind "Monster _______" (can't remember his name) driving his 100hp+ rear wheel drive Suzuki. Peple who play Gan Turismo would know the car. Way back, this was a "good ol' boy" sport only till Audi crashed the party with it's rally car in the early 80's, with a woman driver no less. She made short work of their previous times with her 4wd. I'd love to try it, but my imp has nowhere near the power to compete in something like that. (I guess I'd be safer that way) lol
Adam N.D.J.
I got the honor of attending the Subaru pre-party in 2002 for the Pikes Peak run. Got to see the Prodrive cars, and meet the Drivers, including Lovell (have a poster signed by him). There were a bunch of "monster" cars, including this one green Imp. I'm thinking it had a 2.5 turbo in it, sequential semi-automatic tranny, stripped with rollcage and everything. This was a private party car. This is the same year that Jamie ran in the Pleo (it was a Pleo right? The toaster on wheels?) That was a kewl little car. I'm prolly going to be attending the run next year (as a spectator). It's great to see. A must at least once in your life. The tractor runs are the best, nothing like seeing a huge Mack truck hauling up a mountain with two huge black plumes of smoke pouring out of the stacks. Mmu wa hahahaha. baccaruda
If Subaru/Prodrive build it, I'll drive it. We can do it! heh. The Suzuki monster is called the Escudo Pike's Peak edition or version or something. It has two v6es with either single or twin turbo and is close to 1000 HP. YIKES! mr.radon
The tractor runs are the best, nothing like seeing a huge Mack truck hauling up a mountain with two huge black plumes of smoke pouring out of the stacks. Mmu wa hahahaha. Sorry, I used to be a crew member of the Kenworth T2000 race team. We stopped racing two years ago, management urgghhh. Anyhow, I'd like to correct that there were no Macks out there, just Kenworth, Freightliner and Molly driving the Sterling (Streling pulled their truck out or retirement for only one year). Molly didn't do so well since her main goal was just not to wreck the thing. I got to meet the Subaru rally team and pit crew since we were just across the road from their pit the year "monster" ran. I was pretty upset when I hear they were soon thereafter killed. They had the best pit entrance routine and our driver tried it too. They would scream down the raod, lock up, spin 135 degrees and shoot onto the pit ramps. We would all clap, everytime they were right on target. However, you should have seen that pit crew scrable when our T2000 can screaming down their side of the road, lock up the rear duals and spin on a dime like their toy cars. He executed a perfect 180 and drove into our pit area. I also have a lot of pictures we took of our truck when it went on a tree cutting excursion.
