Joey Joe
Ive been trying to figure out what was wrong with my 87 GL, thought it was the head gasket but I found out for sure yesterday on the freeway. It was running like it had been, underpowered but doing okay, had good oil pressure and normal heat, when POP!!! And then the sound of a cylinder dying and smoke was EVERYYWHERE. I need a new engine now and have a want add up on this site, but I don't want to wait long because it is now snowboard seasson which is why I own a subby. If anyone knows a good place to find a subaru engine in Western Wa, or knows someone that has a stockpile or has any leads I would be much appreciative. I need an EA82 and it is for a 87 GL manual non turbo FI, I think that there are a broad range of years that fit. If nothing comes along Im gonna bag the car and part it out, its all there and everything is perfect except the right axel, just a heads up. SPFI EA82 was between '87 and '92, or maybe '94 -- can't remember if the last years of loyales were MPFI? I just put a '91 loyale engine in a '87 GL and just had to swap the disty (the old ECU didn't like the newer distributor for some reason). Or you could put an EJ22 engine from a legacy in it, but that might not get done in time for snowboarding -- alot of rewiring. Good snowboard season isn't till January here though. Too many rocks still showing before that. Of course if I stuck to groomed trails instead of the trees, I wouldn't have to wait so long...
