Eprisoncells
I'm working on a 2001 Outback and the removal of the halfshaft and everything went smooth. Then when I was suspecting snap rings I couldn't seem to find one. What is the best way to at least remove the outer cv joint? I'm figuring it may just pound out, but I don't exactly have a vise I could use. Any other helpful options? Thanks
nipper
Any particular reason you didnt just buy a replacement rebuilt axle? nipper
Danbob99
Was the boot split open? Dirt get inside it? if you are doing the cvj becuase you needed a doj and it was convinent to do it while it was out you can clean out the joint and put a new boot and grease on it without removing the cup. If it had been split and gotten dirt in it i usually try to replace the axle to be safe...
john in KY
One end does have an accessible snap ring. The other end has an internal snap ring. Whack that end with a brass hammer and she'll come off. Really don't need aa vice.
