Anyone tried this kit?

My headlamps are dying. These are not much more than a pair of new headlamps, and they convert to cheaper H4 bulbs, plus they're multi-faceted reflectors like on my Kia, whose headlights are B-R-I-G-H-T...

 

Has anyone tried using these?

they will be an upgrade, however don't use the crappy @ss bulbs they give you...to compliment the those better housings, i would get/search the H4 bulbs from http://www.powerbulbs.co.uk/ free shipping on the orders and they carry some very good osram & phillips bulbs not sold here. you should also add a relay to your headlights..all that should blow the stock lights away

there is another place that has these in stock depending on what bulb setup you are running, Susquehana motorsports if i remember correctly. Google them and you'll find some good stuff one headlight upgrades. Just waiting to get a good job before i get their headlight replacement covnersion.

The question you need to answer is "are my headlights dim because they are old or dim because the wiring/connections/grounds are bad." If the latter is true, these upgrades won't help you much; as a matter of fact, drawing more current for the higher power bulbs might make the connection problems worse. These headlamps can be a great improvement if you also rewire the headlights to run off a fused connection directly from the battery via relays to carry the extra load.

They're yellowing, and one is clearly older/weaker than the other (pass side)... so I'm guessing old.

I'll bet you a beer it's a bad ground/connection and worse on one side. Try plugging in another sealed beam to check; I may have one here at my house that you could try.

Hey there Geoffrey, good to see you back. I have a set of similar H4 aftermarket lamp housings in my Hatchback and like them ok. Got 'em from good 'ol JCWhitney on sale for about $24 for the set. The brand is EagleEye or something like that. No problem running 80/100 bulbs with semi-custom wiring. If aimed properly they don't seem to blind oncoming traffic.

I parked next to a Jeep that had the Pilot brand H4 lamps and the Pilots seemed to project a nicer beam than mine. Might be worth spending more money for better quality lamps.

 

Too bad you don't need round lamps like Gen1's use. Last night there was a set of brand new looking Cibie H4 round lamps at Saint Vincent DePaul thrift store at 130th and Aurora. $3.99 each.
