TROGDOR!
whoa...if your going 80 mph or over many states automatically cite you for wreckless driving. it shocks me the cop didnt cite you for criminal speeding, arrest your rump roast and give you a HUGE fine with a court date. consider yourself a lucky sob. That is not true. There is not such thing as automatic reckless driving. The fast lane of traffic on 1-5 from seattle to bellingham is ALWAYS a few miles an hour over 80. Going 73 in a 50 in the right conditions is not an unreasonable risk to take, though it does increase danger. In this state, 80 is automatic reckless driving. Our highway speed limit is 70. Yes, such a charge DOES exist.
omniman69
in alberta, 50 km's over is grounds for confiscation of vehicle, and it was on 97th just outside of town where the highway goes from 28a to 97th, where the speed drops from 110km to 80km in 100m. WoodsWagon
Give us a few years, and all this will be a problem of the past. Your in car OnStar system will measure your speed an automaticly call the cops when you excees, say 90MPH. You will then be fined, or sent to jail, and the roads will all be perfecly safe with nice law abiding people filling them. People are already using it to track unfaithful spouces, so there's no reason cops can't use it to controll speed limits. Hopefully that pesky amendments section of the constitution won't get in the way. Seriously, I can't belive that there is any driving member of this board who hasn't sped. It's not the end of the world. I belive 30mph over in New hampshire makes it reckless. A bit more and it's a felony. So tecknically I'm a multiple felon. Am I a bad person? Most of my speeding has been in realitively clear roads. I slow down for pedestrians, and try to be a courteous driver, but sometimes it's nice to let the car breathe. Keep it to the track, No street racing, No back road rallying, It's all very good advise (And I'm not being sarcastic about this) When you're doing any illegal behavior with another car participating, Things can get competetive and out of hand real fast. I almost participated in a brutal crash, because of said competitiveness. Luckily, the car I was folowing just missed the truck and trailer on the dirt country road, thus avoiding the 3 vehicle 45mph pileup that could have happened. It would have sucked, people would have gotten badly hurt, and I would have been up sh*t creek. I always think back to this when I rise to the bait of competive behavior. Sorry for the long post, but I'm torn between the preaching of our elders and the irresponsibe urges of youth (which are still fun )
85vortex
in western australia we now have "hoon laws" so if your caught to far over the limit speeding or doing burnouts, donuts, drifting, drag racing your car is confiscated for a minmum of 48 hours (kind of hard to hide from your parents when your cars missing) i dont condone racing or speeding, but i think this post was originally more about the cops reaction of not knowing the car, not really any need for people to play parent and give lectures
