mcbrat
82-85 had the side steps. starting in 86, no rear seats, so no sidesteps. the passenger side was the only true step. there was just a lookalike cover on the drivers side....
North Ursalia
Thanks to XSNRG, I will have steps on both sides.... MUHAHAHAHAHAH :-).
Adam N.D.J.
As for the drivers side, you can take off the cover, and ther is a hole in there for a step. So if you find another one of the spring out step covers from a passenger side, it will go into the drivers, then you'll have two steps.

MorganM
Too bad they removed the side steps That decreased the MAX passanger capacity by 1 atleast (maybe 2 if you they had small enough feet to share the side step ) Also made it harder for short people to access their BRAT bed! Was that the original intent of those things? There must be some VERY short people working at Subaru if they couldnt lean over that thing and reach in the bed
Flowmastered87GL
I think the only reason they put them on is for easy jump seat access. That would explain why they disappeared in later years too.
GeneralDisorder
Yes - that's also why they were only on the sidwalk side. They are for getting in and out of the jump seats. GD
