suby motors are kinda light.

Recommended Posts

well i finally got around to pulling the motor in the wagon, since i got a shop of my own now. the motor is not all the way out, but the little bit that i did have to lift the motor by hand wasn't to bad. i'm hopfully going to have my friend out at the shop tomorrow night so he can help me lift the motor out. i guessing that the whole motor is going to way less then my brothers block out of his land cruiser. i will try and get pics. i was also wondering how bad it is to have a bunch of mud in the bellhousing?

no, the Subie 4-cyls aren't bad at all weight-wise (but then, pretty much everyone in the Northeast Corridor has helped moosens pull one out of something at one point or another...)

XT6 engines are pretty heavy though.

And...mud in the bellhousing is not good. Not good at all. Are you worried about it getting in there or was it already there when you started disassembly...?

Carefull with the mud in the bellhousing, I cleaned all the mud from behind my flywheel when I did the last clutch, the next day the rear main started leaking. So if your going to remove mud from a Subaru, then replace any seals under or nearby, cause thats whats keeping them from leaking.

well my friend and i didn't have any real triyble getting it out, i found a button und the motro on the crossmember right between the motor and the bellhousing it dosn't even go to any thing that i own. there was nud in the bellhousing that was burned by the flywheel. i can tell the morot has been take in out before because ther was a washer on one motor mount but not the otherone.

Hi Gang

I made a engine lifter out of a old weight bench and two lengths of steel .

i used the uprights of the bench as the base, added wheels for mobility.

Then welded a bracket to one side .

I cut and hinged the two lengths added a short platform to the post side

about 10" from the top.

The platform holds my subaru car jack and the whole rig is collapsable for storage. next i have to add a removable engine stand to it.

Cheers Pete
