simbey1982
Hello All got a couple of questions to help me finish up my engine swap. 1. See picture below. What does that thing go to?? ive never seen one before? This is a SOHC 2.5 litre from a 2000 forrester 2. I think this is the Dropping Resistor for automatics. THis is in from an AT 97 impreza...Any ideas Thanks for the help Cory
ferret
1st picture looks like the motor was from an automatic. The automatic Foresters come with an Oil cooler. It's a finned cooler which uses engine coolant. The cooler mounts between the block and filter. It has a coolant hose attached to that 1st picture on the block, the other side goes to an extra connection on the gooseneck where the thermostat is. In other words, when you have the oil cooler, your gooseneck is different. A hose and tube run across the bottom front of the engine to the Oil Cooler, then exit there and enter the block where you see the nipple. If you are not going to use it, just install a plug in the block and either a cap over the extra fitting on the gooseneck or use a gooseneck without the extra fitting. simbey1982
thanks ferret i owe you again any ideas on picture #2, Is there a threaded plug i could buy from a dealer??
ferret
Just a standard plug, maybe a dealer would have one, or just about any EJ (18, 22 or 25) would have a plug here. If you have access to any old junkers. Maybe even an old 'oil drain' plug might work.
who1981
Maybe even an old 'oil drain' plug might work. Haha, that's a burn. Hmm, an oil cooler would be sweet, wonder why the engine had a nipple for one, but no cooler, and no connection on the goose-neck...odd.

Legacy777
Yeah there is a coolant plug. You can see the plugs in this pic. http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru/images/ej22t/02/DCP_4290.JPG I may have a spare plug, because I installed an oil cooler on my engine. If I do, you can have it.
simbey1982
Thanks josh...I got one off my old EJ 22....just looking for some confirmation on that AT dropping resistor Cory
Legacy777
Yeah I'd say that's probably the dropping resistor for the auto trans. Only other thing I can think of is a DRL resistor.... You can always disconnect it. If you get the power light or AT light to blink, then you know it's the dropping resistor.
