need some creative advice

Alright, it would like to get a set of snow tires for the subaru.. the current tires i have are two different sizes.. 155/80s and 165/80s and there not that great of condition.

one problem though. after taking off the rear tires one day i found that the inside tred was gon on the right rear tire. and when i take a close look the caber is noticable negative on that side. the left side is fine and tire showed perfect ware. any ideas on how to fix this. possibly finding the rear trailing arm at the scrap yard and replacing this one. possibly getting some leverage on it and bending it.:-p, i don't want to put new tires on it only to have them ware abnormaly.

Thanks guys. if i could just replace it, does anyone in the spokane area have a spair laying around.. or anyone in the seattle area.

the other 3 tires are perfect

The rear shouldn't need alignment unless something is obviously wrong, as in your case. Rear alignment is done by loosening the three bolts that hold the main arm to the torsion bar arm and manipulating the wheel with a bottle jack or something. Apparently its an utter PITA, thats coming from an old guy who used to set them up for rallying. I'd suggest you find someone who is familiar with the procedure to do it if possible.

Just have a wheel alignment done on all 4 wheels. That should actually be done every year.

i'll probably end up having it checked out... but as far as i know there is no adjustment for these cars... if im wrong please correct me.

also i know cars need an alightment every year or so..;) ive had this car for a month..

ive looked and i personaly cant see how that would work... but then i have never messed with those bolts. i have an old chiltons manual and it has a bit on camber adjustment for the first gen cars and its quite simple really... i see no adjustment capability on these second gen wagons.

my haynes and chiltons shows nothing about caber or even having it adjusted after removing and installing the inner rear trailing arm.

could this abnormal camber be caused by a bad bushing or a bent control arm?

I just dealt with this problem on my wagon so I can throw a few cents in here.

yes there is a little bit of adjustment in the rear. yes its a pain.

my problem was also related to my worn out rear bushings. after new bushings were installed and the alignment was set as close as I could guestimate. the rear end is looking good. some neg. camber but not too bad. same side to side. I used the superpro urathane bushings from WJM and they worked out real nice. not as dificult as some vehicles to change.

you can have it aligned all you want but if you have bad bushings it will just change the instant you drive it away from the alignment shop.

I got a parts car with most of it there, trying to part it out and get rid of it. I bought some snow/hwy tires from Discount on the N. side, (division), pretty good had them siped! Only about 45 bucks a tire plus 6 or 7 to get 'em siped their Warriors 185/70R13. I work at 49 and the tires do great up the mtn roads, no need for tire cables/studs. Hey we should meet up sometime soon and go rallying/wheelin'! Ill be in spokane this week a couple times. The tries are on my stock steel mags fit both wagon/hatch.

Just a word of advice if you do decide to get it aligned. I had mine aligned several times by tire stores, and they kept wearing like yours. I finally found an alignment shop that could get it right. They said the tire stores didn't do it wrong, but that the factory specs they were using were wrong. I'd go to an alignment shop that's familiar with 4wd Subarus.
