beezer617
Hello all, I just bought a 1999 Legacy with 63,000 miles. I’m just wondering what are some things I should look for in the way of engine maintenance. Thanks
jayhawkroy
Follow the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual and you'll do fine. I would check brakes and tires if you haven't already done so. 90K service and the timing belt change at 105K are your next two big events. Verify that the previous owner actually accomplished the 60K service, and get it done if it wasn't done.
shortlid
Congrats!! Roo's are GREAT cars for New England! The early ('96-'99) gen. 1 EJ25 (aka 2.5 Liter) are prone to headgasket failure. You will want an independant Subaru mechanic in your area to check that for you. Is the car Automatic or 5-speed. Does it have matching tires all around? The group will need more info to help you out with particulars.
1Subaru1
Lucky bastard ! The '99's are the best, especially wagons with the Ej22 Phaze 2 engine and manual transmission. See postings by Alias20035 ,I think ( do a search) for more refrences and advice (by far the best posts on this site). If your car is in good shape now, keep up on the maintenance (flush all fluids if you're not sure whether they've been done or not), rustproofing and proper tire inflation, and you can pass the car on to your grandkids. Enjoy it, and laugh your way through just about any kind of weather!
