archemitis Posted November 17, 2005 Share Posted November 17, 2005 i have ran both for extended periods of time. probably 10k miles in rear wheel drive, on two different hatchbacks. i am pretty sure more power gets to the ground while runing in fwd mode. the car is faster. not sure why but i guess its because you dont have to rotate that big drive shaft. the wheels hop around alot more, and the traction is worse (on dry pavement) in fwd mode. but rear wheel drive is hell even in rain... snow is impossible. the car goes down the highway better in rwd tho, i think the cvs make the front end do wierd stuff at high speeds. im not sure which one i like better, but for the winter, im gonna leave it in fwd/4x4, since id need about 8 sandbags in the back to run rwd in the snow. nipper Posted November 17, 2005 Share Posted November 17, 2005 Actually you are correct. The only thing you left out is that rwd is prefered for trailer towing over FWD. The sandbags really are overkill and all its going to do is kill your gas mialage. A good set of all season radials would serv e you better. The only thing you have to watch out for as in any vehical is packed snow, as that can get the drive wheels off the ground and your not going anywhere. nipper Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

PeterD Posted November 18, 2005 Share Posted November 18, 2005 since our cars were built as fwd cars they perform better that way. but in most cases rwd is better, its better for racing, better for performace.. and has a certian cool factor.
