if you go to the main home page, and go into the archives you will find a thread about to do that very swap, im thinking about doing it also. all the guess work is done for you, so all you gotta do is follow the yellow brick road.

Does anyone have any information on putting newer subaru struts or knuckles or everything to make an older style 4 lug into a newer 5 lug for different rims for different size tires and nicer rims ????

Like this?

I've been searching this site for the same info for hours. I can't find crap on it. Only talk about it. That and people telling noobs to search for the info... :( Found numerous references to the USRM but when I go there, I again can't find crap about it. Is there not a decent soul amoung you that can JUST POST A LINK for us? Geez. It wouldn't kill you to add a link to the end of your post telling us to search next time. Anybody?

ok ok ok, well besides searching for it, there's should be talk of the people who have done it like myself which can answer any questions through PMing. As far as the USRM, I cannot access it for some reason, probably a software upgrade or something. If you need questions answered, or parts that will work, let me know, I can help.

oh dont worry, i plan on pm-ing you once i start my 5 lug swap, speaking of which, i know i need to keep my 5 speed D/R 23 spline tranny axle, with some sort of XT6 ball joint or something, do i take apart the axles, and combine the XT6 balljoint ( the thing that holds the hub and bearings to the thingy that the strut attaches to) i know, i know, i dont have all the suspension parts figured out yet. i think its called the spinndle? anyway, what is the easiest way to get the XT6 5 lug to match up to my 23 spline, N/A, D/R 5 speed tranny? BTW the XT6 ill be using is 4WD.

That's cool. Thanks for the offer to PM. But, dude, here's the problem: I'm so new, that I don't know who's done what to what...so until you said you've done it, I had no idea. How am I supposed to know who's done what to what etc etc when I am barely figuring out what an ea81 and ea82 is and all that crap. (By the way, is there some FAQ somewhere for subaru model designation?) I didn't grow up around Subarus, I grew up around Toyota Land Cuisers. I don't know jack crap about Subarus. But I want to know. Give me some good technical stuff to read about Subarus and I'll read all day long. I just hate reading through forums to get info...there's always miles and miles of useless posts that don't do me any good. Aren't there any decent tech write-ups or howto's?

Is this the USRM everyone keeps talking about?

http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/USRM2/subrepair.htm

Cause I didn't see anything good on there about the 4lug to 5lug swap. Is there not a parts list put together of parts needed? Parts to replace and parts to keep? No step by step write-up? Somebody has got to be able to write one up...it's not that difficult to just start writing down the process...

the search function is our friend. click on "Advanced Search" and click on "search titles only". that should be the default since if you're looking for something, it's likely more specific info if what you're looking for is in the title. i'm going to suggest that get changed.....i think it would help everyone out. search funtion is great.

use a * before or after a word if it doesn't return any results. if you type in "lug" and get nothing, then type in "lug*".

as much as you hate reading through forums, knowledgeable folks hate posting over and over again about the same questions. i understand you're new, i'm only encouraging good use of the search funtion, it saves everyone time. some people don't care and that's lack of respect for the time the helpful/knowledge people of usmb put into helping thousands of people free of charge. there you have it....more endless rambling that you don't care about...how about some meat and potato's during this festive holiday then Gary Gross?????.........okay, drum roll please. lucky for you im working so i'm getting paid to do this......

here's the results of searching...exactly what you want in this thread, with pictures:

go to Advanced search.

click on "search titles only"

type in the following: lug*

go to the 12th item down....conveniently titled what you want.

it has pictures and parts and all....

Hey thanks for helping me out there. I don't mean to sound like such a grump about it. I guess I suck at searching. And I guess I just don't get why there is not a tech page that lists links to tech tips and tricks and conversions and howto's. The tech write-up referenced in that thread is a pretty good one.

Like I said, I grew up around Land Cruisers and am a member of several Land Cruiser Web Forums. This one in particular is a great site for Land Cruisers: www.ih8mud.com. And there is a page called Technical Links where they list howto's etc for mods and conversions and retrofits etc. Check it out at http://www.ih8mud.com/cruisertech.php.

Can we get something similar to this going for USMB? Could USMB host it or no? I'm working on a web server at my work right now (acutally just need to assign it's IP address and make it live) and I could do some hosting there if needed...

bodhi, if you're ever in the Laramie area, I can give you my number and you can come voer and take a look at the RX which has a full 5-lug done to it. As far as that USRM, thats the old version of it from the original board so it doesn't have any of the newer stuff. Here's a list of people who have done a 5-lug conversion that I can think of off the top of my head...

Dr. RX

Me (Caboobaroo)

Hondasucks (I helped him with his)

Calebz

SubaruTex

MilesFox

subaru_styles

yes there are probably more people who did it but I cannot remember who all has done it. If you need a parts list and some tips/technics, just send me a PM and I can help you with as much as I can. Also, if you need parts, I know where there's a whole XT6 that can be used for the conversion.

That would be cool. I'm interested in the XT6 you know about...I don't even know what one looks like, so I'm going to have a helluva time finding one... :)

I'll PM ya.

Also, is this going to add any lift? I don't want any lift, I just want wheel options. I want to run some decent looking wheels and some decent all-season tires. I'm mostly going to be driving this sucker on the street (even though it has a diff lock).

Thanks guys.
