eggroller
I didn't find any posts about this subject. I just got a '88 GL Wagon D/R. My initial clean up included looking for areas of accumulated...crud. I looked at the hinges on the front doors and saw lots of stuff accumulated in the fender. To my surprise there is a ton of stuff accumulated in there. Major rust potential. Now the car is lighter and I can get it more dirty from rallying it... NuclearBacon
When i bought my Mountian GL-10... i took the inner fenders off... and pounds and pounds of dirt and rocks and crap came out. quite impressive actually. now the car weighs about 30 pounds less GOOD TO LET PEOPLE KNOW!!!! Subarian
Yeah. Owner of other cars have to remove parts to lighten them. Subaru owners just need to get all the mud and rocks out!
TROGDOR!
Around here, the bottoms of the fenders just rust out after a couple years like that. With that chunk of the fender gone, no more crud builds up. :-p
nipper
i did that with my OBW, the original owner never really paid attention to it, thank god no rust, but it took me 10 minutes per side with a pressure washer to get all the crud out. nipper
Ross
I had that bad with the '83 wagon, ended up taking the fenders off and giving them a good clean/prime just to make sure. Definitley nasty.
BobBrumby
i needed to change a stop lamp bulb in my brumby. with the lense assy out i found about 2 inches of red dirt packed tightly down the bottom of pannels behind rear tire. i then changed the other sides bulb aswell and found next to none. i only found it on your guys driver's side. its a good sign as red red dirt comes from inland aus, so no beach runs . stephenw22
I usually carry 40-50 lbs of mud in my wheel wells. Makes for better traction... Actually, next spring I'll probably take the mud flaps off my cars, they seem to trap mud and dirt against the body panels.
mudduck
Around here, the bottoms of the fenders just rust out after a couple years like that. With that chunk of the fender gone, no more crud builds up. :-p That part of my fenders is missing. I have plumbers strap rivited towards the bottom to keep them from floping around, because where you bolt the bottom of the fender is non existant now. Zefy
well lucky me my 79 doesn't have any fender shields... but after wcss7 i spent probably 20 mins with a hose spraying out my fenders... clump after clump of mud came out... it was awesome... BobBrumby
Actually, next spring I'll probably take the mud flaps off my cars, they seem to trap mud and dirt against the body panels. yeh that is almost as bad as the drain channels on the bracket for rear top mount of the shokies on brumbies, that gets clocked and it rusts away the inside body. why would car manufacture see any use for these too things except to rust out the body, i cant see any logical reason for them. this was like when my dad told how a while ago ford left their bodies out in the weather for a while before painting them. hehe but if your ford rusted out really quick you wouldnot be rushing out to buy another one off them, but a subaru?
