dragonwingsubaru
im just curious on your steering extensions are you just cutting the piece that comes outta the column or the other side, then welding it at the length you need??and in either case could i use that piece from a parts column instead of cutting the original? soobme
I would take the side that goes from the U-joint to the rack and cut that. Get a pice of heavy wall tube (.250) that will just slide over the 2 parts and use that for your'e extension. Put it in the car, get it all lined up and then tack weld it. Pull it back out and finish weld it. That should give U a verry strong pice that is custom fit to your'e car:)
FirstSubaruGLwagon
Automatic or manual transmission???? mine , with 4" lift ,manuel steering, automatic transmision , needed to be... 14-5/8ths 3” lift might need to be shorter And with a manual transmission you might need it to be longer due to the position of the transmission mounts. Also, from what Ive seen,,, the "flats" ( like the U joints) on the rack and on the steering colom should be at an 45 degree off-set from each other,,, So…….. I think the idea of cuting it first and then lifting it, might be the best most acurite way of getting the correct lenth.
dragonwingsubaru
thanks for the info thats a big help. im not sure on exactly how much im gonna need since im not posative how high im gonna go yet, will most like be a 3 to 4 inch lift though, might even just go with 2 inches, all i really need is enough to keep my tires from hitting the fender when i jump it or whatnot, and its a d/r manuel tranny in the car
