GeneralDisorder
Oh - and even with your extra spacers, the 1.5" should work. I didn't have that extra stuff, and I could actually close the hood with the 3" filter - but it did hit it, and pushed it down a little. Anyway, if the 1.5" won't work, then niether will a setup like Skip's I don't think - basically the same height as the short weber version. And for only $10, it's worth a shot.... TomRhere
I forgot all about the measurement for the air filter. Measuring down from a straight edge across the fenders, to the top of the bottom filter plate on the Weber, I have 1-7/16" of room. So it don't sound as if the shorter filter will help any. Guess I do have to hole the hood. Then again. I could remove the black phenolic spacer that is under the adapter plates. That would give me about a 1/4" more room. Then get the shorter filter, and see what I can see. Been running ideas of a hood scoop thru my brain. Just can't visualize one that would look good. It would have to be tall in the front, and taper down to the stock hood line at the rear. Kinda like a cowl induction hood scoop, only in reverse. Just can't picture a good looking one. Oh well. As long as it doesn't rain, I'm okay without a hood. Got some way weird looks again while driving around last night. I like it!! Had a guy in a late '70's Camero, breather poking thru the hood, pull up along side of me. Pointed at the breather, gave me a thumbs up, waved and took off. Cool................. GeneralDisorder
You should ask Ken what hood scoop he used on his Brat. If I were you, I would remove that spacer, and slap on the short filter. Or you could lift it, and use the big filter. Maybe get another hood if you are going to do major cut-and-paste to it. GD

TomRhere
Pulled all 4 plugs, and gave them the eyeball. Appears that she's running lean. Re-installed plugs, twisted the FPR up another notch. Drove the long way home, approximately 5 miles. Pulled the plugs again. Looking a bit more towards normal. Twisted the FPR anpther notch, and when for a run down the road, went around 20 miles, 60 MPH average speed. Stopped and pulled plugs, looking even better. One more twist on the FPR. Drove home, and pulled plugs. Looking good! Nice white-ish tan color. Think I'll leave it where it's at for now. I know that a true plug cut, is done by driving a certain speed, shutting off the engine while at speed, then pulling plugs. Kinda hard to do that with the traffic at the time I was doing the tests. I'll try to do it the right way this week end. Had to re-set ignition timing too. This was on the 1st leg of the 20 mile run. Had slight spark knock. No pinging on the way back home. I'm running 87 octane from what ever station I stopped at last, don't remember brand name. Getting Happier!!!!!!............

TomRhere
She's running real good now. Managed to get a proper plug cut done. Actually did 4 different ones, under various driving conditions. Plugs appear to be the right color. I can now wind her out in first gear, and no stummbling as with the Hitachi. The exhaust note from the duals has mellowed considerable, but she'll still bark when you mash the loud pedal. My gas mileage has geatly improved. Have done a specific check on MPG, but the gage is telling me she's running better. Yesterday, the Boss sent me down to get a couple of propane tanks filled for our forklifts. When I got back, I pulled into the plant to unload them. Boss is impressed with the BRAT, He's seen it, but not up close. Anyways, upon pulling out of the shop, he tells me to "light 'em up"... So I did. Always listen to the Boss, Right? The floor is painted with an Epoxy paint. It's now sporting 2 stripes about 6' long, with 2 more about 3' long from when I nailed 2nd gear. When I get back into the shop, Boss is standing there with a couple of co-workers. All of them are going ape sh!t over the tire marks on the floor. Boss had only one word to say to me. "COOL". Another co-worker wanted to know what I had in it. I told him, "No way" he says. Had to go out and show him that it was what I said it was. Wouldn't believe that it was only a 4 banger under the hood. His Ford pick-up won't do that, he's tried. It'll just chirp the tires. Poor Baby!!!! Skip
Tom, good work, well told and hope others listen to your advise. Glad to see it's runnin as it should. If you ever tear it down, your jet sizes would be valuble to others using 32/36 DGs on EA82s along with your final FP. Are you planning on feeding it any warm air for the winter?
