dolehendrix
so during my transmission swap last weekend, the flange between cat/center pipe disintegrated. the "donut" on the cat end was the part to go. the center pipe flange is ok. so can i get a replacement donut thing, or do i need to just weld the pipes together? i'm not buying a new cat for a winter beater over a flange, if you know what i mean. if this is a replaceable part let me know, the part description and where to buy it, otherwise i'll just weld it up next week. cookie
I would imagine this is a common repair in Maine. When I lived there years ago auto parts stores used to have a flange selection, but I imagine they just sell the whole pipe now. If it was a beater I would check wrecking yards for a good pipe. You might consider a piece of pipe one size larger and a couple of muffler clamps. If I am understanding you correctly you could just eliminate the flange on both sides. It is a bit tough when I can't see exactly what you have to work with. On exhausts I had there as a kid I would often replace a few sections before I got rid of it. Don't ask about the beer cans, hose clamps, and muffler bandages. I was broke. Legacy777
Is the doughnut thing a gasket? I know they changed things a little on the newer legacies, but on the older one that doughnut piece is a gasket and can be replaced.....assuming we're talking about the same thing. cookie
Thats a good point Josh. I thought he meant the flange. It's tough when you can't see it.
dolehendrix
yes, the flange that does the clamping aka can rotate on the pipe when not clamped down. i think i'm going to just cut the remaining flange off and fit a piece of pipe over it and clamp both ends.
