Recommended Posts

so i was talking to my dad and the 82 wagon ive been driving is mine now.. it will be in my name soon.

hopefully i can get some of the problems worked out... still working onthe rear camber issue and the tranny mounts...

Also--anyone know of a good place to find rear tranny mounts.. or who has a few to spair. the only place i have found with them is the dealer for 50 bucks a pop:eek:

also will soon be looking for a 4sp duel range tranny..mine is on the brink of exploding.

That's sad about your tranny.... :( The 82 has the best geared dual range tranny of any sub for off roading )

Congrats on the car...you can always bump up to the ea82 5 speed tranny with a little grinding on the bell housing, but that damn 82 tranny is so sweet when it's working right.

yes the tranny is geared very very well but its the least of my conserns.. the 84 got way better milage with help from the taller 4th gear. but it was not as quick on its toes. it sitll works but it sure makes some bad sounds.. a rebuild would probably be a little over the top for this car. I thought about the 5sp swap possibly ater my currnet tranny goes. im still struggling to fix my negative camber issue in the rear.. that is my goal to fix that as soon as possible.. and the lower tranny mounts.. and that hopfully will solve the problem of eating CVs.

im not very brand loyal, vw is just as importatnt to me as subaru is, but in different ways. IMO they are a much more fun car to drive.. although not quite as dependable. they both have a uniqe part to them that i like and enjoy. and if you look real real hard you can see that subaru did take some vw concepts and improved upon them. in many ways the ea81 is very similar to the air cooled vw engine.

i plan on getting an old air cooled beetle in the summer.. its a thought at least. they ave been a dream of mine to own.. and with the subaru at my side..im good to go. but for now the subaru is the daily as the vw is broken... i was workingn on it over thanksgiving and snapped a lower control arm mouning bolt..so over christmas break i plan to rebuild andinstall the weber, and install my cd player and speakers. :)

oh and the sub wont turn into a hardcore off roader. it will be a light roader. trail car, daily driver.. winter beater.

Tranny mounts are plentiful at the local Pull a Part yard. Probably cost you less than $5 and 30 minutes of your time.

yea but the last few subarus i looked under had crap mounts also.. i'll take another gander if they have anything new in the yard when i go get a hitachi manifold..

I have an 84 4sp d/r. Going to do a ej22/d/r5sp swap so I won't need the old one. Have never driven it so I can't honestly tell you about it's condition. Bought it from (Dylan) slidewaysuby is his handle on here.

He could tell you more about the condition of the trans than me. To cold for me to get very motivated working outside right now. It's not going any where fast, not pressed to do any thing with it. Just fuel for thought. Stumpy
