Brat Rally Suspension Setup

I want to setup my Brat rally style!

I want to raise the car a little bit using softer suspension so that I can roll through rough terrain at a high speed more comfortably.

I would like to hear everyone's input on what stuts/etc. can be fitted onto an EA81 to make for a longer and softer suspension.

A few things that I'm tossing around in my head for this ::

1 - EA82 struts for the rear fit (?) and giv me X" of height w/ the coilovers but also stiffen the ride up, how much would I get not running the coilovers?

2 - I recall Miles Fox talking about modifying EA81 lower control arm mounts to accept EA82 suspension goodies. Is this something that could work in my favor?

3 - What will it take to mount up OBS or other EJ struts on my EA81?

Thanks for reading & input!

Ya I am sure you could do that.I would love to see a picture of that.A rally brat or hatch would be really cool with some good suspension travel.
It gets better - I want to do that stuff once I have an EJ and around the time I break my 4SPD and go w/ a D/R FT 5SPD.

That should be super cool.

you can use 74 super beetle strut cartriges "inside" the EA81 struts with a bit of fabrication, and with RX springs... gives you a little suspension lift, 8 inches of travel, and the VW cartriges are a little softer.

Did pretty nicely at WCSS7... ask some people that were 4wheelin with me

YES!!!!! :banana::banana:

Thanks for sharing, that is exactly what I wanted to hear! Would you care to elaborate on the necessary fab'ing to make it work?

If you have any pictures of how the vehicle sits with this setup, I would pay a high dollar just to see it :drunk:

Nothing as of yet. I haven't had the time or money to start tooling around with my suspension in my snowy parking lot. (garage got demolished)

I was given the suggestion of running a second strut on both front corners to get the higher ride height, so that's what I'm hoping to do at this point. I don't think I will do anything until I have done an EJ22 swap because at this point the Brat is a zero-budget car for me.

If I ever get 'er dun, I'll be sure to post.
